French Immersion

Elementary French Immersion Program:

Thank you for your interest in DSBN’s French Immersion program. Students in French Immersion take the same subjects as those in the English Grade 1 program. Children are introduced to the French language through repetition, gestures and songs. In the 21st century, our goal for language learning is authentic communication. Students learn to listen, speak, read and write in French for real-life purposes.

Secondary French Immersion Program:

In DSBN, five schools offer the secondary French Immersion program (see below). For students to graduate with a certificate of French Immersion, they must take a minimum of 10 credits in the French language. These credits include: français (4 credits: Grades 9-12), sciences (Grades 9 & 10), géographie (Grade 9), histoire (Grade 10) and 2 optional credits offered by the school. Students will complete the remaining credits (20) in English.

The following schools offer French Immersion Programs:

• A.N. Myer Secondary School, Niagara Falls

 • Governor Simcoe Secondary School, St. Catharines

 • Grimsby Secondary School, Grimsby

 • Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School, St. Catharines

 • Welland Centennial Secondary School, Welland

Parking Lot Safety

In order to ensure that all of our families are aware of what is permitted and what is in violation of the City's parking/stopping regulations, we have included below information that clearly states what is permitted and what is a parking violation according to the City of Niagara Falls. In addition, we have included a map of our school community, particularly surrounding McMicking St./Dorchester Rd. and Piva Ave. This map clearly illustrates areas in which all families should avoid parking and those in which they are permitted to stop. Adherence to these expectations will ensure the necessary flow of traffic and buses, as well as the safety of all of our students. The City of Niagara Falls Enforcement Office will be closely monitoring and patrolling periodically to issue tickets for any violations.

With continued hope that we have full cooperation and that our families will continue to help and ensure the safety of our students, we respectfully request that you take the time to read the information outlined below and share it with others who may be picking up your children.  If you would like further information or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the administration of the school.

Note About Bussing

As a policy of the Niagara Student Transportation Services (NSTS), under no circumstances will any student be allowed to ride a bus other than his/her regular bus.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this might pose but for liability and safety reasons, the transfer of buses is strictly prohibited.
