Big Changes Around the Corner

In September 2018, Prince Philip will become the dedicated Grade 1 – 8 French Immersion Public School for students in North Niagara Falls.

This means we will say goodbye to our friends in the regular track, who will transition to Martha Cullimore in September.

We won’t be lonely though, as we’ll welcome new friends (Grade 1 -3 French Immersion students) from John Marshall Public School. We’ll need to add new portables to accommodate everyone, but we’re confident everyone will be successful in our expanded school. An Open House is being planned on May 15, 2018 for students and parents to visit the school at this time.

We feel this change will have many educational benefits for our students. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office and we will be happy to get them answered for you.

Welcome to Prince Philip Public School!

Thank you for visiting Prince Philip Public School's website. The school is open and our secretaries are available from 7:45 am until 3:30 p.m.

For other DSBN information, please visit the DSBN web site or call 905-641-1550 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

We are looking forward to a great school year

Transportation Information

On August 21, 2017 NSTS will post specific back to school transportation arrangements for each student enrolled at the school boards, including bus route numbers, stop locations and times. Eligibility information is also available through the portal and walking directions are available if your child lives within the walk zone of the school and is not eligible for transportation service.

Please visit www.nsts.ca and sign-in to the secure parent portal to get your child’s student transportation information. To sign-in to the portal you will need your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) which can be found on their report card. While signed-in, please subscribe to the delay and cancellation module for direct and timely emails regarding student transportation that impacts your child.

Changes to home, pick-up or drop-off addresses must be made through your child’s school.

With the availability of the secure parent portal, NSTS will not mail student transportation notices with the exception of Kindergarten students or new students to the system who do not have an OEN to sign-in to the portal

Please contact your school or NSTS if you have questions regarding your child’s transportation arrangements.

Information for Student Walkers
This year, all School Crossing locations will have ONE Hour shift times for all shifts, as the City of Niagara Falls strives to provide excellence in customer service for the public.

The link for the School Crossing Guard page found on the City of Niagara Falls website. https://niagarafalls.ca/city-hall/transportation-services/school-crossing-guards.aspx It contains a list of ALL School Crossing Guard locations and times, including two Temporary locations put in place to assist students through areas of construction. Those locations are:
We strongly encourage all school families to utilize this site in order to plan their child’s route to school as we are committed to supporting Active Transportation for school travel.
We also ask school families to support our message of choosing Safety Before Convenience by abiding by all Parking Restrictions in and around School zones; alternatively choosing options such as walking and wheeling to school. Please talk to students about the dangers of j-walking, disobeying traffic signals and not wearing helmets when biking to school.
Help support a positive and safe pedestrian experience!

Battery Recycling Challenge Oct. 16 - April 20, 2018 (Friday before Earth day!)

Our school is participating in the Ontario Schools Battery Recycling Challenge by Raw Materials Company. Its purpose is to teach children and their families about the proper way to handle, store and recycle batteries at home and at school. Since 2014, students and their families have recycled more than 3 million single-use batteries. A collection container will be available at Prince Philip for the duration of the challenge.

Parking Lot Safety

In an effort to ensure good communication and to ensure that the safety of our students is maintained, we feel the need to address the ongoing traffic congestion on McMicking St. and Piva Ave. Since prior to our Winter Break, we have been in communication with DSBN Facilities staff, Niagara Falls Public Works and Traffic Enforcement staff, NSTS Transportation, as well parents and residents discussing traffic issues on McMicking St. during our Entry and Dismissal times.

In December, we had a meeting with the City of Niagara Falls and our DSBN Facilities Dept. to further address the traffic and safety concerns. We mostly observed behaviours from drivers who were not obeying the parking/stopping restrictions near our school exit on McMicking St.

Since 2014-2015, prior to parking updates of our "Kiss & Ride" (2015) and our new expanded parking lot (2016), we had asked parents and guardians to drop off/pick up students at the exit of our school on McMicking St. Now that these improvements have been made and traffic flow is going well, we ask parents/guardians to access the school parking lot and "Kiss & ride" lane when dropping off/picking up students OR adhere to the no stopping/parking restrictions set out by the City of Niagara Falls.

In order to ensure that all of our families are aware of what is permitted and what is in violation of the City's parking/stopping regulations, we have included below information that clearly states what is permitted and what is a parking violation according to the City of Niagara Falls. In addition, we have included a map of our school community, particularly surrounding McMicking St./Dorchester Rd. and Piva Ave. This map clearly illustrates areas in which all families should avoid parking and those in which they are permitted to stop. Adherence to these expectations will ensure the necessary flow of traffic and buses, as well as the safety of all of our students. The City of Niagara Falls Enforcement Office will be closely monitoring and patrolling periodically to issue tickets for any violations.

With continued hope that we have full cooperation and that our families will continue to help and ensure the safety of our students, we respectfully request that you take the time to read the information outlined below and share it with others who may be picking up your children.  If you would like further information or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the administration of the school.

Note About Bussing

As a policy of the Niagara Student Transportation Services (NSTS), under no circumstances will any student be allowed to ride a bus other than his/her regular bus.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this might pose but for liability and safety reasons, the transfer of buses is strictly prohibited.
